BAOFENG DM32 10W DMR Handheld Radio — Dual-Band GPS Walkie-Talkie
Product description
Digital and Analog Modes: The DM32 supports both DMR digital and traditional analog operation, letting teams mix equipment without replacing gear. Digital features include SMS with 128-character messages and draft storage, GPS with digital APRS reporting, configurable digital calls (private, group and all-call), multiple encryption options (ARC4, AES128, AES256), and digital voice recording tied to DMR IDs and timestamps. FCC ID: 2AJGM-DM32UV.
Power and Bands: This handheld delivers up to 10 watts of transmit power and covers standard VHF and UHF bands, giving stronger penetration and extended range for hiking, camping, mountaineering, fieldwork and winter sports. Antenna is removable for replacement or upgrades.
Text and Voice Logging: The radio can compose and store text messages and keeps separate voice recordings for each call when operating in DMR mode, with roughly 8–10 hours of recorded audio capacity. These logs help with situational awareness and incident documentation.
GPS and APRS: Built-in GNSS provides live position sharing and can send location packets automatically to preset APRS receivers. That automated reporting is designed to accelerate rescue or regrouping when personnel or gear require rapid pinpointing.
Weather and Emergency Alerts: An integrated NOAA weather receiver keeps you informed of severe weather warnings and can serve as an emergency broadcast source when cellular networks are down.
Typical Uses: The unit is aimed at roles where confidentiality, timeliness and dependability matter — patrols, fire/rescue, private security, site coordination, transport and commercial field teams.
Charging and Accessories: A USB‑C charging port supports laptops, power banks, car chargers and wall adapters. The package generally includes the handheld radio, rechargeable battery, USB‑C charging cable, antenna, belt clip and a programming cable; some sellers ship accessories in a separate inner box, so check all packaging on arrival.
Build and Size: The radio uses a tough plastic housing with a metal belt clip and rubberized controls for outdoor use. It’s a compact, pocketable handheld intended to be comfortable to carry for long shifts or hikes; batteries are removable and chargers cradle them for convenient recharging.
Pros
- Switchable digital and analog operation with modern DMR features

- Built-in GPS/APRS and NOAA weather receiver for safety
Cons
- Programming software and workflow are complex for many users
- Firmware variations can limit transmit range on some units
- Accessory quality and packaging may be inconsistent
VerdictThe DM32 packs advanced digital features — SMS, GPS/APRS, multiple encryption options, digital calls and recording — into a rugged handheld with 10W output and VHF/UHF support. It delivers reliable long-range performance and useful safety tools like NOAA weather reception and automated APRS location reports. Programming is the most frequent frustration reported by users, and firmware differences c

Works well after programming; missing manual and one accessory issue
Programming is fiddly — software downloaded from the maker’s site works, but the options are not well explained. Once the codeplug was loaded the radios performed well and batteries charged fine. One speaker/mic accessory failed to transmit. Antennas tested OK. Set was intended as a gift and was well received, though one manual was missing from the packaging.

Not suitable for GMRS/FRS transmit in many firmware builds
Bought these for GMRS but discovered they won’t transmit past around 449 MHz on my units. Research shows multiple firmware versions exist (00–04); only version 00 allows transmit up to ~470 MHz for GMRS. I contacted the manufacturer and they couldn’t update the firmware to enable higher transmit ranges. If you need GMRS transmit capability, verify the firmware before buying.

Heavier, more solid feel; bought multiple units
Nice set overall. I don’t yet have DMR access, but these feel more substantial than the UV32 models, likely due to extra features. I’ve purchased four so far and am satisfied.

Solid performance on a recent trip; programming takes patience
Took these to Utah and they held up well and provided clear comms. Programming has a learning curve — plenty of helpful tutorials online. Feels as tough as my other Baofeng units.

Found accessories in a second box; radios work but programming tedious
Accessories showed up in a separate box so check all packaging. The radios operate fine once set up, but programming is pretty time-consuming. One unit has an audio problem and may need returning.
