Amateur radio
Midland LXT600VP3 FRS Walkie-Talkies — 2-Pack (Black)
Product description
Channels and scanning
The pair offers 36 FRS channels with a channel-scan function that cycles through frequencies to find activity. Users can pick channels manually or let the unit detect traffic.
Power and batteries
Each radio accepts the supplied rechargeable NiMH battery pack for repeated use. If you prefer disposable cells, the units also accept three AAA batteries per radio (sold separately), providing a convenient backup option in the field.
Range expectations
The manufacturer advertises up to a 30-mile range under ideal, line-of-sight conditions with little to no obstructions. In practice, dense woods, buildings or terrain will reduce that distance; best performance is in open landscapes.
Privacy and tones
These radios include 121 CTCSS privacy codes to reduce interference and create many code combinations, helping you avoid other nearby conversations. A silent mode disables tones and key beeps for discreet operation.
NOAA weather features
A Weather Scan + Alert mode automatically checks 10 NOAA weather channels and locks onto the strongest feed. If a severe-weather alert is broadcast, the radios sound an audible alarm so you can take action.
What’s in the box
The package contains two radios, two belt clips, two rechargeable battery packs, a dual desktop charger, an AC adapter, and an owner’s manual. The plastic housing is lightweight for handheld carry and has a compact profile suitable for clipping to belts or slipping into packs.

Worked well between cabins
These maintained clear links between cabins that lacked Wi‑Fi or cell service and provided good coverage while walking nearby trails. Customer support was responsive when contacted.

Solid performance off-road
I used these frequently while off-roading with a jeep group in forested areas and they performed without issue. Batteries lasted a 5–6 hour outing, audio was clear and volume was ample. No static encountered.

Simple setup for short trips
Preparing to use these on a two-vehicle trip. They’re easy to configure and good when you don’t need extreme range. Setup was straightforward.

Handy for campsites with no cell signal
Excellent for camping where phone reception is spotty. Kept our group connected at camp with zero cell coverage. Lightweight and easy to clip to gear or tuck into a pocket.

Range shorter than advertised
They operate, but the advertised 30-mile reach is not realistic. Range is far less, even on property with open areas. Ended up being kids’ play radios for us.

Buen funcionamiento general
Funcionan bien para mis tareas cotidianas aunque no cubren grandes distancias. Me han servido perfectamente.

Great for kids and families
Fun, durable radios that don’t feel like cheap toys. Good alternative to a phone for younger kids without monthly costs. Range can be impressive in open areas — much less in obstructed settings. Note: no vibrate, but silent/beep-off modes exist and there’s an external headset jack.

Good for city use up to about a mile
Took these on a European cruise and trialed them around town beforehand. Inside a city they worked solidly up to about 1 mile; performance fell off between 1 and 1.5 miles and was unreliable past that. Fine for shipboard and short shore excursions.

Paintball and woods events — reliable
Bought a pair for refereeing paintball games and they handled both small and much larger wooded fields well. On smaller 2.5-acre courses they were flawless; on a near-20-acre, mostly wooded site they still provided consistent contact across most lines of sight. They also worked with other brands on FRS channels.
