Brother SDX125EGY ScanNCut DX Electronic Cutting Machine — Grey
Product description
The Brother ScanNCut DX SDX125EGY combines a built-in scanner, automatic blade sensing, and an intuitive 5" touchscreen so crafters can scan, edit, and cut without always needing a separate computer.
It includes 682 onboard designs — among them 100 quilting patterns and 9 fonts — and supports adding your own files via USB or wireless transfer. The touchscreen lets you preview, resize, combine and tweak designs before cutting. The system also works with Brother’s Canvas Workspace for additional pattern downloads.
Brother supplies its DX auto blade and an auto blade holder that use automatic material-sensing technology; the machine detects material thickness and sets cutting parameters so you don’t have to manually choose blade depth. As with all cutting tools, it’s recommended to run a test cut to confirm settings before committing to a full job.
This cutter can handle materials up to 3 millimeters (0.1 inch) thick, including paper, vinyl, fabric, balsa wood, chipboard, foam and felt, letting you tackle stickers, stencils, applique, small wood projects and more. The motor runs quietly, making it suitable for hobbyists and small-scale sellers who need precise, low-noise cutting.
Items included in the box are a 12" x 12" standard tack mat, a black pen and pen holder, a touch (stylus) pen, a spatula, an accessory pouch, a pattern collection with 76 extra designs, the DX auto blade and auto blade holder, a Getting Started guide and one sample sheet of cardstock. The unit is intended for use on 120 volt systems in the United States; operating or selling it outside of that specification may void the warranty.

Inconsistent scans and clunky software
I bought this for automated sticker cutting but the scans sometimes add stray cut lines and the same print can cut differently on repeat scans. The import/export tools feel dated and it took a long time to get the unit online. The mat quality and workflow left me frustrated at times.

Consider a pro vinyl cutter for heavy duty work
If you need rock-solid print-and-cut at full 12" size, consider a professional vinyl cutter. For basic tasks this machine is fine, but I had trouble getting reliable scans near the full mat size and often had to thicken the registration outline and reduce cut width below 11" to get consistent results.

Quality
Excellent product — it has worked very well for me so far.

Powerful cutter but needs supervision
The cutting is very accurate if the material is firmly attached to the mat, but you can’t walk away while it runs. Paper can buckle and ruin a sheet, so use high-quality media and make sure the paper is well tack-down. When set up correctly it produces clean edges.

So simple to use — a game changer
This was easier to operate than my former machine. I can scan directly on the mat and cut without printing from a computer, which made perfect sticker sheets and fast projects. I found additional Brother accessories at a nearby fabric shop and have been making lots of custom pieces.

Reliable for stickers and crafts
I’ve owned this for about a year and it’s been dependable. It arrived with the expected accessories and blades; I mainly use it for stickers and craft projects. It handles vinyl and fabric as well, and a mobile app is available if you don’t want to use a computer.

Outstanding scanning and cutting; software is okay
As a long-time user of other cutters, I find the ScanNCut’s scanning and on-machine cutting excellent. You can make small edits and offsets right on the unit. The desktop and mobile software aren’t as full-featured as some competitors, but most jobs can be completed directly on the machine. Includes the cutter, basic accessories, a mat and starter designs — pick up an extra mat to keep projects moving.

Perfect for card-making projects
I primarily make cards and prefer cutting directly from the machine’s touchscreen rather than using a computer. For smaller jobs it’s faster and more convenient. For large, complex projects I still use a computer, but the machine handles paper and cardstock beautifully.

Great hardware, software could be friendlier
I switched brands due to roller problems and the Brother performed well. The touchscreen makes quick jobs easy and wireless sending from my laptop is convenient. Designing more complex shapes in the software is confusing, though, and it took a few tries to dial in pressure settings.

Great for stencils and decal cutting
Worked perfectly for cutting stencils and decals. I printed my stickers, scanned them, then used the vector outlines for precise cuts.

From skeptic to hooked on crafting
I never thought paper crafts would appeal to me, but after buying both a Cricut Maker and this ScanNCut I dove into stickers, stencils and vinyl for polymer clay projects. The on-board scanner and ability to scan stencils made me experiment a lot. It took a while to learn the tools and supplies, but once I did I was making precise cuts and custom decals I hadn’t expected to enjoy.
