AQUANEAT 2-Pack Aquarium Circulation Pumps — 480 GPH Submersible Powerheads
Product description
What’s included: two compact submersible circulation pumps and matching suction-mount fittings for attachment to the aquarium wall.
Power and size: Each unit runs at 3W and moves roughly 480 GPH (about 1850 L/h). The housings are compact at 2.75 x 2 x 2 inches (L x W x H) and come with 6-foot power cords. Rated for 110–120V at 60Hz, they’re sized with recommended aquarium coverage of roughly 60–75 gallons for freshwater setups and 45–60 gallons for saltwater systems.
Mounting and adjustability: The pumps use suction cups with an articulating ball joint, allowing a full 360° range of aiming. That flexibility helps direct water to stir up fine waste and uneaten food so the filter can capture it, reducing quiet corners where debris collects.
Benefits to livestock: By creating a steady current and agitating the water surface, the pumps help simulate natural flow patterns and increase gas exchange at the surface — useful for active fish, corals, and live plants.
Installation and caution: To install, fully submerge the unit, press the suction cup to the inside glass or acrylic, lock the latch, and position the head as needed. Do not connect an external timer or controller to these pumps while running, as that may cause them to reverse or malfunction.
Pros
- Compact footprint with strong flow
- 360° adjustable suction mount
- Good surface agitation and filtration assistance
Cons
- Can be overpowering for smaller tanks
- Suction may need periodic re-seating
- Some units may be noisy or fail prematurely
VerdictSolid small-format circulation pumps that produce strong flow and surface movement for better filtration and oxygenation. Good for medium aquariums when used intermittently; keep in mind they can be powerful for very small tanks and shouldn't be attached to external timers or controllers.

Same physical size as the higher-powered models
They turned out to be the exact same dimensions as the stronger units I’ve seen — I thought these would be smaller. I bought these hoping for a lower-profile option but they match the larger versions.

They move a lot of water
For the size and capability you get plenty of flow. I have two on a 130-gallon tank and they circulate the water well. My tank isn’t heavily planted yet so there aren’t many obstacles, but they lock to the tank rather than relying solely on a suction cup which helps prevent them from flying around if something shifts.

Unreliable units out of the box
I bought four and only two worked for any meaningful time. One ran once, another lasted only a few short uses, and the last two never powered on. I had to obtain premixed saltwater elsewhere for a water change and replace these units. Can’t recommend these based on my experience.

Very strong output but suction can fail
Output is powerful — I use them in a 50-gallon long. The downside is they sometimes come loose from the glass and send sand everywhere. I find I need to re-seat the suction occasionally.

One makes a persistent buzz, clarity unchanged
No instructions included. I tested them in the sink first and noticed one had a loud buzzing sound; both also spun in reverse at times. I hoped adding one to my 29-gallon would restore the crystal-clear water I had before, but the clarity did not return. The noisy unit is too annoying for constant use; my fish had mixed reactions to the added flow.

Ideal for my 30-gallon setup
Suction held well and you have a short window to fine-tune position before it grabs firmly. One unit stirs the substrate enough for the filter to pick up waste; both create a nice circular flow so I rarely vacuum the sand. I run them briefly a couple times a week and they’re quiet and effective for my 30-gallon community tank.

Much more powerful than I expected
This moves a surprising amount of water and is nearly silent. I only run one of the two in my 29-gallon to push detritus toward the intake occasionally. For continuous use in a tank this size I’d be cautious, but for larger aquaria the strength, quiet operation, suction grip, and adjustable aim are all very good. I’d recommend them for many setups.
