YLI Wonder Invisible Clear Nylon Monofilament Thread — 2000 yd Spool
Product description
Clear, matte-finish monofilament nylon thread designed to disappear into patterned and solid fabrics while maintaining a soft hand. The product is supplied on a single spool containing 2,000 yards, sized to fit standard home sewing machines and tall enough for extended use without frequent changes.
The filament has a smooth, uniform structure that allows reliable stitching even at elevated machine speeds, making it suitable for free-motion quilting, machine appliqué, and other decorative machine work. Because it’s monofilament, tension settings are important: lowering the top tension to roughly the 1.0–2.0 range helps prevent breakage and pulls of the bobbin thread.
Precision winding means the thread unwinds consistently from the side of the spool; it performs best when used on a vertical spool pin or a spool stand so the thread feeds freely. While many stitchers use it as the top thread with a cotton or poly bobbin thread underneath, it can be wound into the bobbin if handled carefully—do not over-tighten while winding.
Handle the filament gently and take your time while sewing; its thin, slippery nature makes knotting and manual handling a little more challenging than typical cotton or polyester threads, but those trade-offs come with a near-invisible finish once stitched.
Pros
- Nearly invisible on multicolored fabrics
- Large 2,000-yard spool reduces changes
- Feeds well at higher stitching speeds
Cons
- Needs lower top tension to avoid breaks
- Slippery and can be difficult to knot
- Requires vertical spool setup for best feed
VerdictA versatile clear nylon monofilament suited to quilting and applique where discreet stitching is desired. The 2,000-yard spool provides long-lasting supply and the soft, matte filament runs well at faster stitching rates. It does require lower top tension and careful handling because the filament is fine and slippery, but when set up properly it delivers even, nearly invisible stitches.

Perfect for suspending items in displays
Great for hanging objects in a shadowbox — nearly invisible once in place. It breaks with minimal effort, so be cautious when tying knots or you may need to start over.

Very discreet and strong for machine applique
Strong and nearly invisible once stitched; you really can't see it unless you search. The filament is thin and slippery, so follow instructions and set top tension to about 1 for balanced results.

Hard to work with
Very frustrating to handle; I had a lot of problems using it.

Does the job but knots are tricky
I ordered it to try for some projects and it worked well overall. The only downside was that tying knots was awkward — otherwise a good nylon mono thread.

Highly transparent and durable for quilting
Super transparent and tear-resistant; sews beautifully for quilting. Top quality — I give it five stars.

Good for specific projects if handled carefully
This invisible thread is excellent for certain uses. It can slip from the spool so I cover it with a netting and sew more slowly. On my machine I slightly tightened bobbin tension and avoided over-winding the bobbin. Color stays clear and it lasts a long time when treated gently.

Performs beautifully after adjusting tension
I've tried many transparent threads and this one is my favorite so far. I make tree-motion art quilts and machine applique and it worked wonderfully. Be prepared to reduce the top tension a lot — I run mine about half of what I use for cotton or poly. Smooth, clear, and worth buying again.

Great for beading on embroidery
I use this thread to string beads on embroidery pieces and it works perfectly for that purpose. Very satisfied.

Excellent for quilting and applique work
I use monofilament for quilting and applique frequently. This brand feels softer and more flexible than others I tried; it drapes without crinkling and handles washing and pressing well. It has a matte look with low reflection and only needs a small top-tension tweak.
