Yamasan Kyoto Uji Organic Sencha Loose-Leaf Green Tea — 2.82 oz
Product description
Certified Organic and Single-Origin — This loose-leaf sencha carries JONA and JAS organic certification and is harvested in Uji, Kyoto. The package contains 2.82 ounces (80 g) of loose green tea leaves, selected in cooperation with local tea growers and long-standing plantation stewards who have preserved this site for centuries.
Harvest, Cultivars and Selection — Leaves are predominantly taken from early harvests of Yabukita and Saemidori cultivars. Tea masters inspect and blend small batches to prioritize freshness, balance and consistency. The result emphasizes natural sweetness, a gentle astringency and aromatic complexity characteristic of quality Japanese sencha.
Processing and Roasting — After a careful steaming process that protects nutrients and preserves green character, the leaves undergo far-infrared roasting. This finishing step deepens the umami, enhances fragrance and creates a warmer, rounder mouthfeel compared with simply steamed commercial teas.
How to Brew — For a hot cup, use lower-temperature water (well below boiling) and short steeps to avoid harsh bitterness; re-steeping the same leaves several times yields excellent results. For a cold, naturally sweeter infusion, try Mizudashi (cold-brew): steep in cold water for several hours to produce a smooth, crisp brew with reduced caffeine.
Uses and Occasions — This sencha is suited to everyday enjoyment, casual tea gatherings and simple tea rituals. It makes a thoughtful gift for people who appreciate Japanese tea traditions, summer refreshments, or a calm afternoon swap for coffee.
Pros
- Certified organic, single-origin leaves
- Balanced umami and natural sweetness
- Works for hot and cold brewing, good for re-steeps
Cons
- Sensitive to overly hot water — can turn bitter
- Smaller 2.82 oz package for frequent drinkers
- Flavor profile may be earthy for some palates
VerdictA finely made organic sencha that highlights Uji terroir and traditional craft. The leaves offer a smooth, umami-forward cup with natural sweetness and a clean finish. Best appreciated when brewed gently or cold-steeped; sensitive to high water temperatures but versatile enough for daily drinking, simple ceremonies, or sharing with guests.

Wonderful Flavor — Great Everyday Health Drink
This tea has a nice, approachable flavor and is easy to prepare. It's a lovely discovery I'll buy again. Mixed with cream, honey and a touch of ginger it becomes indulgent, yet as-is it's a healthy daily choice.

Solid Tea
Not as intensely grassy as some, but it brews a clear cup with a mild green note. The leaves unfurl in the water, which felt like a sign of freshness. Would purchase again.

Gentle, Flavorful Sencha — My Daily Pick
I've been drinking this sencha daily for a couple weeks. The dry leaves smell fresh and grassy; a gentle brew makes a clear green cup with a lightly sweet, vegetal taste and a clean finish. It's calming and steadies my focus without coffee-like jitters. I can re-steep the leaves and still get good flavor.

Authentic Japanese Sencha — Clean and Uplifting
This authentic Japanese sencha impressed me. The initial aroma brings Uji fields to mind, and the brew is smooth, slightly sweet with a gentle vegetal edge and balanced bitterness. It delivers a calm, steady lift—much nicer than coffee for a midday pause.

Husband Enjoys the Flavor
My husband said it tastes upscale. It feels like a premium product, and that matches what you get in the cup.

Slightly Costly and Temp-Sensitive
Good introduction to loose Japanese green tea versus bagged options. It needs careful temperature control—boiling water makes it bitter. Cold-brewing is a handy workaround and tastes smooth. For the cost, I expected a touch more intensity.

Earthy, Mushroom-Like Notes
I'm new to tea tasting, so take this with that caveat. I followed the two-teaspoon suggestion for an 8oz cup and steeped at 75°C. The aroma and flavor here are stronger than some greens I've tried—there's an earthy, almost mushroom quality up front, with tea bitterness creeping in after a longer steep. A shorter initial steep might suit beginners better.
