Fabric
100% Cotton Muslin Fabric — 63" x 2 Yards, White Muslin Cloth
Product description
What’s included
This listing is for 100% cotton muslin fabric sold by the yard; the sample here is a 2-yard cut at a 63-inch usable width. Multiple widths and color options are offered so you can choose the fit for your project.
Material and appearance
Made from pure cotton muslin, the cloth is unbleached and untreated, so you may notice tiny seed flecks across the surface — a normal trait of natural cotton. The weave is a one-over-one construction that produces a relatively tight, breathable cloth in a neutral off-white/beige tone.
Weight, feel and handling
This fabric is lightweight with a moderate body: easy to cut, sew, and drape. It provides good stability for backing, embroidery, and craft uses but isn’t especially soft or stretchy for next-to-skin garments. The tight weave still allows light and air to pass through.
Recommended uses
Suitable for dyeing, block printing, embroidery backing, craft projects, curtains, aprons, pillowcases, quilting, table linens, decorative backdrops, and kitchen tasks such as straining or cheese making. The cloth accepts dyes and inks well and serves as a reliable base for hand or machine sewing.
Care instructions
Safe for both machine and hand washing. To preserve softness and longevity, wash in cold water and tumble dry on low heat. A warm iron will remove creases and help square the fabric if needed.
Pros
- 100% natural cotton
- Good for dyeing and crafts
- Wide 63" width available
Cons
- Not very soft for apparel
- May show natural seed flecks
- Some batches have slight odor
VerdictThis unbleached cotton muslin delivers a flexible, breathable base for many projects. It’s lightweight with a fairly tight one-over-one weave that handles dyeing, printing, and craft backing well, though it isn’t plush enough for softer apparel. Expect natural flecks from untreated cotton and simple machine-wash care.

Bonne option pour les loisirs
Parfait pour bricoler et divers projets maison. À éviter pour la couture fine — la texture est particulière, mais idéale pour nappe ou décoration rustique.

A remorse reduction review 4/5
Light, tight weave — practical but not plush
Delivers as advertised for an economical cut. The one-over-one weave is relatively tight yet breathable; light shines through. Feels not very soft, no stretch, fair drape. My sample measured 45¾" including selvage by 36" length and weighed 5.4 oz — about 4.2 oz/yd² (≈158 gsm). Undyed beige tone accepts dyes and printing. It arrived wrinkled with a few miswoven lines and a faint, odd odor that should fade after washing. UV checks hinted at optical brighteners.

Right size and feel
Exactly the dimensions and hand I needed.

Poor quality control
This piece was off-grain and the selvages weren’t square. After trimming it down I ended up with much less usable width than expected. Not reliable for garment sewing; might be OK for simple craft uses. Do not recommend for precision sewing.

Nice, rustic muslin
Arrived sealed in plastic with minimal labeling. Clean, neatly cut, and free of obvious flaws. Unbleached with tiny dark flecks; soft but not silky. Good for pillow backing and home décor in a farmhouse style. Sturdy and double-sided. I found it a bit expensive per yard, but the quality is solid.

Handy for kitchen tasks
I use this 100% cotton muslin for making paneer and it strains beautifully. It’s soft, breathable, and lets liquid drain while holding solids. Reusable after washing and handy for other household or craft projects.

Great backing for embroidery
I bought the unbleached muslin for embroidery backing and it’s been perfect. Needles glide through easily and the weave stays consistent across the length. The roughly 44" usable width lets me cut many small hoop circles without waste. The natural tone gives my pieces a handcrafted look rather than a factory finish.
