Six Moon Designs Tyvek Footprint — Small Ultralight Tent Groundsheet
Product description
What you get: one genuine DuPont Tyvek groundsheet designed to sit beneath a single-person tent and shield the floor from sharp rocks, roots, and grit.
Material and size: constructed from hard-structure Tyvek for high puncture and tear resistance. The sheet measures 84 inches by 36 inches and weighs approximately 4.5 ounces (128 grams), giving a durable barrier with minimal bulk.
Water resistance and protection: the Tyvek layer acts as a waterproof membrane to help block moisture and reduce ground chill. Its tough surface prevents common backcountry hazards from wearing through your tent floor.
Fit and customization: the footprint is sized for one-person shelters such as Lunar Solo, Skyscape models, and Gate-style capes. It can be trimmed with scissors to achieve a more precise fit; for larger shelters like the Haven or Lunar Duo, opt for the Large Tyvek Footprint instead.
Care and handling: the fabric can be noisy at first. Machine wash without detergent and line dry to soften the material and reduce crinkling for a quieter, more packable piece. If absolute minimal weight is the priority, consider the Polycro Footprint 2-Pack (under 1 oz) instead; choose Tyvek when maximum abrasion resistance is needed.
Pros
- Highly puncture- and tear-resistant DuPont Tyvek
- Lightweight and functions as a waterproof barrier
- Can be trimmed to fit and softened by washing
Cons
- Initial crinkle noise until conditioned
- Width may not cover larger tent floors
- Heavier than ultralight Polycro alternatives
VerdictThis small Tyvek footprint offers rugged floor protection for solo tents without adding much pack weight. Its hard-structure Tyvek resists punctures and tears and keeps ground moisture from seeping in. Expect initial crinkling until you soften it by washing and line-drying, and remember it’s tailored to single-person shelters — choose a larger footprint for two-person tents. A solid choice for roc

Does the job under a tent
I use it under my tent to block rocks and sticks; it's doing the job. I washed it before the trip, which softened the material and cut down on the noise. Good value.

Good starter piece
Good dimensions for a small shelter. Handy single piece if you don't want to buy a full roll; useful as a starter but you may need more material later.

Great for light two-person setups
Ideal for a lightweight two-person setup; folds compactly and adds little weight.

Functional but a bit narrow
Works fine but initially stiff and noisy until washed. Wish it were wider to cover more of the floor; I position it where I sleep.

Thunder Storm 5/5
Dependable in the wet and dark
Performs well. Bring a little extra footprint if weather or darkness makes precise placement difficult.
