GEAR AID 19-Piece Outdoor Sewing Repair Kit — Heavy-Duty Needles & Thread
Product description
This 19-piece outdoor sewing repair kit is designed to handle quick mends for garments and gear encountered during camping, hiking, travel or everyday use. The complete set comes in a compact twist-top tube measuring roughly 1" x 3" and weighs under 2 ounces, making it easy to carry in a pocket, pack pouch or emergency kit.
Inside you’ll find heavy-duty sewing needles and strong nylon thread intended to match common outdoor and military fabrics. The kit also includes spare buttons, straight pins, safety pins, a metal thimble, a seam ripper and a few other basic tools to tackle tears, replace lost fasteners and make on-the-go repairs. A small instruction sheet or repair guide is included to walk through common fixes.
The contents are meant for field repairs on jackets, uniforms, backpacks, tents and other camping equipment. While the supplies themselves are suited to tough fabrics, the twist-tube container can vary and is relatively thin; it keeps items organized and lightweight but may not withstand sustained crushing. For more rugged use, store the pieces in a stronger tin or dedicated pouch.
Pros
- Heavy-duty needles and strong nylon thread
- Very compact and lightweight (1" x 3", under 2 oz)
- Includes basic tools: thimble, seam ripper, pins, buttons
Cons
- Thin plastic twist-tube can be fragile
- Limited thread quantity for extensive repairs
- No small scissors included
VerdictA lightweight, well-equipped emergency sewing kit geared toward outdoor use. It contains heavy-duty needles and strong nylon thread suited to common outdoor and tactical fabrics, plus buttons, pins, a thimble and a seam ripper for quick field fixes. The kit is very portable and organized, but its thin plastic tube is the weak link — consider transferring contents to a sturdier container if you'll

Worth it for campers
If you camp, get this. It beats cheap kits. The container feels solid, the heavy thread suits outdoor gear, needles are sturdy, and there’s a metal thimble along with the other basics for field repairs.

Compact hiking kit
Good for hiking and as an emergency kit. The case is thinner than I expected and is easily compressed, but it hasn't failed. Everything stays organized and is useful for repairing packs and clothing. Four stars because it lacks scissors; the nylon thread holds well.

Contents ok, case flimsy
Supplies are fine, though the seam ripper feels a bit weak. The plastic tube is very thin and seems prone to cracking; it hasn't broken yet, so I'm giving four stars but remain concerned about durability.

Needs container upgrades
Useful kit with decent needles and a metal thimble. More thread and another needle size would help. The plastic case compresses easily and can be hard to secure; I'll move the parts to a sturdier tin for field use.
