Pop-Up Butterfly & Insect Habitat Cage — Clear Mesh Terrarium, 9 x 11 in
Product description
Updated mesh: this version uses a clearer, finer mesh so the inhabitants are easier to see and the fabric wipes clean more readily. The soft, breathable netting promotes good airflow while keeping caterpillars and butterflies safe.
Design and size: the habitat pops open into a free-standing enclosure that measures 9 x 11 inches tall. When not in use it collapses flat for compact storage. The lightweight frame includes a carrying strap so kids can bring it on walks or clip it to a belt loop for hands-free collecting.
Access and use: a large zipper at the top opens wide for placing food, introducing or releasing specimens, and tending to pupae. The roomy interior allows newly emerged wings to expand without being cramped.
Applications: suitable for raising Painted Lady, Monarch or Black Swallowtail caterpillars, watching pupae form chrysalides, and temporarily housing adult insects. It’s a popular pick for classrooms, family projects, and casual collectors.
Care: the fine mesh is soft and easy to clean with mild soap and water. Because the unit folds flat it’s simple to store between seasons.
What’s included:
1 x Butterfly Habitat Terrarium
1 x Quick start guide manual

- Clear, fine mesh for visibility and airflow
- Pops up quickly and folds flat for storage

Watched my first butterfly emerge
Absolutely loved this habitat — my very first butterfly emerged from its chrysalis inside. It’s been a joyful learning experience to watch the process up close.

Just right for a small group of caterpillars
Works well for a handful of caterpillars. I like the shoulder strap for carrying. Would be nicer if there were zippers on both sides so the bottom could be cleaned without reaching in from the top; I line the floor with paper towels and still need to clean occasionally.

A reliable little home for critters
Very pleased with this habitat — I’m on my third. It’s great for rescued or wandering insects. The mesh keeps things in and out, the zippers close securely, and the handle makes it easy to move. Cleans up quickly with hot water.

Great for hands-on learning with grandkids
My grandchildren adore this pop-up bug house. We’ve kept butterflies, beetles and even a little frog for short periods, asked questions about habitats and diets, then released them. It’s a wonderful educational tool.

A simple, magical observation space
Sets up in seconds and provides a safe spot to watch metamorphosis. The breathable mesh lets in light and air so caterpillars and butterflies stay comfortable while children and adults observe.

Smaller than expected but kid-friendly
It was more compact than I thought, but that’s fine for my seven-year-old. The kids caught a butterfly and some moths, and the next morning there were eggs on the top netting — fingers crossed for caterpillars soon!

Perfect classroom setup size
Bought several for school lessons. We set plant stalks into floral foam in small containers and place two monarch caterpillars in each enclosure. We already have our first chrysalis — students are thrilled.

Practical and economical protector for monarchs
I use it to protect monarch caterpillars and chrysalises. There’s room for a small food plant and caterpillars will even hang directly from the netting. The flexible lid lets me release a butterfly without disturbing nearby chrysalides.

Good size for a praying mantis
Bought this to house a mantis nymph and it’s plenty roomy for now. The top zipper almost encircles the top which makes feeding and containing a wriggly insect easier. I’ve used a couple of these and clean them outdoors with soap and water.

Handy and portable for field collecting
Lightweight and easy to carry across my shoulder while I scout the creek. Keeping it on my back helps prevent aggressive species from fighting. The dual zipper tabs let me open just one side if needed. Very useful.
