Fiskars Big Grip Steel Garden Knife — Multi-Purpose Weeding & Planting Tool
Product description
The Fiskars Big Grip multi-purpose garden knife ships as a single handheld planting tool and is covered by the manufacturer's lifetime warranty. Its working end is a one-piece steel head treated to resist corrosion and designed to perform several tasks: a straight sharpened edge for slicing soil and dividing seedlings, a serrated edge for sawing thicker roots and vegetation, plus a forked tip to help pry out stubborn roots.
The tool is sized for hand use on raised beds, borders and containers and features an extra-large handle with a soft-molded grip that improves control and reduces hand fatigue during repetitive tasks. The blade profile includes a shallow trough for moving small amounts of soil or positioning seeds and a notched tip useful for hooking and extracting weeds. A large hang hole in the handle makes storage simple.
Built to replace several small tools in the garden box, this garden knife is useful for transplanting, cutting plant material, slicing roots, opening bags, and light prying. The rust-resistant finish and rugged construction aim to prolong life in outdoor conditions, and the oversized grip helps gardeners with smaller or weaker hands maintain leverage and comfort.
Pros
- Comfortable oversized soft-grip handle
- Rust-resistant multi-function steel head
- Useful trough and forked tip for transplanting
Cons
- Joint between handle and blade can fatigue under heavy prying
- No protective sheath included
- Edge may not yield perfectly clean ornamental cuts
VerdictA versatile hand tool that handles digging, cutting and root removal with a comfortable, oversized grip and durable steel head. Excellent for beds and containers; some users report stress at the handle‑to‑blade joint under heavy prying and wish a protective sheath were included. Backed by a lifetime warranty.

Extracts carrots cleanly
Makes getting carrots out of dense soil much easier without snapping them. Definitely worth it.

Excellent — my wife uses it daily
My wife uses this in the garden nearly every day. She says it feels and performs better than the hori hori she had before.

High quality, user-friendly
Great for digging — the razor edge slices roots as you divide plants, saving the step of lifting and then cutting the whole clump.

Great for weak wrists
I really like this tool. My wrists aren’t strong, yet it lets me dig deep and sever stubborn roots easily. The handle is comfortable for my small hands.

Does the job — sturdy weed extractor
Sturdy and practical for pulling weeds. Fairly sharp for garden tasks but won’t give a flawless slice every time. Well made and I’m pleased with it.

My go-to garden knife for over a decade
I’ve relied on these knives for years — this is my seventh. I keep several around raised beds, containers and the deck. I’ve pushed them hard (pried out huge rocks, left one exposed to weather for a decade) and most damage was from misuse, not normal work. They dig, cut roots, saw small branches, open bags and trim produce tops. Quality holds up remarkably well.

Switched from a hori hori and impressed
Very easy to use and comfortable to hold. Versatile — pulls weeds, cuts vegetation and digs small holes. Bright handle makes it easy to spot. Happy I chose this over a traditional hori hori.

Daily favorite with a weak spot
We love it for transplanting and weeding, but the area where the blade meets the handle can fail if overloaded. We’ve needed replacements and are using the lifetime warranty.

Solid, versatile garden knife
Multi-purpose and sturdy — good for digging, unearthing and cutting roots. Well made with a grippy handle. I’d give four stars because a belt sheath would improve safety and portability.

Robust garden knife
This weeding knife is very solid and far superior to cheap alternatives that bend. A flimsy one I tried distorted in under a day; this Fiskars stays rigid.
