AK Tools Camouflage Elastic Putty (80g) — Reusable Masking Putty
Product description
AK Tools' camouflage elastic putty arrives as an 80 g compound supplied inside a small sealed pouch, which itself is contained in a metal tin for storage.
The material is an elastic, non-greasy putty formulated specifically for masking when airbrushing. It is designed not to stain painted surfaces and to be removed cleanly without leaving residues. Because it is elastic it can be stretched, molded and pressed to fit irregular shapes like wheels, clear canopies, and complex camouflage boundaries.
To use, remove the required amount from the pouch and shape it by hand to the area you want protected. It sticks with light pressure and can be pulled apart, reshaped and reapplied multiple times. After painting, peel it away by hand — it is formulated to release without harming surrounding paint. Note that the putty can flatten or spread slightly over time and may show some stringing when separating, so plan placements accordingly.
Pros
- Reusable and reshapes easily
- Non-staining, residue-free removal
- Conforms to irregular surfaces
Cons
- May sag or spread over time
- Very tacky for some users
- Takes practice to separate cleanly
VerdictA flexible, reusable masking putty that protects areas from overspray without leaving residue. It shapes easily and clings without heavy pressure, making it great for camo patterns and awkward contours. Expect some learning to avoid sagging or stringing, and a very tacky version may be harder to remove for some users. Overall a practical, multi-use masking aid for modelers.

Solid for airbrushing
Does what it claims. Very soft and flexible — so much that it can slump under gravity. Don’t leave it unsupported on your workpiece.

Game-changer for camo
Where has this been? If you do camouflage on miniatures, this saves time. Super useful.

Follow directions and it works
I used to hand-paint or tape, which worked, but this putty is great for covering spots quickly. No complaints — I’ll buy more when needed.

Useful once you learn it
First time using for airbrushed camo on minis. Technique needs practice — 1/72 is fiddly. Might start with larger scales, but I like the outcome.

Very tacky
Extremely sticky and highly elastic. Hard to remove after applying. Personally not a fan.

Silly Putty–style masking
Excellent for protecting areas from paint. Paint contact doesn’t damage it, so reuse is fine. Comes in a pouch inside the tin; you can open and store it in the tin. Be aware it will slowly flatten and spread.

Ideal for complex schemes
Fantastic for multi-color camo and tricky patterns. Moulds easily, sticks with little pressure, stops paint, and comes off clean. It picks up paint but still reseats; separating it cleanly took some practice, then it went back in the tin.

Excellent handling and storage
Strange to handle at first, but results are impressive. I used it on miniatures to avoid color transfer while airbrushing (also workable with a brush). Adheres well, removes cleanly, and can be reused many times. Comes in a zip-seal pouch inside a metal tin — highly recommended.

Exceeded expectations
Used it once after painting to limit a glow effect. I tore and stretched it repeatedly without issues, wrapped the model, painted, and removed it with no residue or paint damage. Worth having in the toolbox.
