XL Solar-Powered Automatic Chicken Coop Door — 3 Modes
Product description
This XL automatic chicken coop door comes with the aluminum door assembly, a separate solar panel, a handheld remote control, a USB-C charging cable for backup charging, and a set of mounting screws and brackets. The opening measures 10.8 inches wide by 14.2 inches high — big enough for large chickens, ducks and geese to pass through comfortably.
The door itself is made from a solid aluminum sliding panel housed in a weather-resistant metal case designed to shed rain and resist wind-driven dust. The electronics are sealed inside the unit, and the mechanism includes a visible battery level indicator so you can check charge status at a glance. The solar panel charges the internal battery during daylight and the USB-C port lets you top up the battery when sunlight is limited.
Three operating modes are built in: Timer mode lets you program precise open and close times each day; Remote mode uses the supplied remote (rated for roughly 20 meters in typical setups) to open or close the door from a distance; Manual mode lets you operate the unit directly from buttons on the housing. An anti-pinch safety feature detects resistance while closing, stops and reverses briefly, then retries to reduce the chance of injuring an animal caught under the door.
Installation requires no household wiring — the unit mounts into a coop opening and the solar panel mounts nearby for sun exposure. Basic tools are sufficient and setup of the clock and timers is straightforward. Periodic maintenance is recommended: keep the travel tracks clear of bedding and debris to ensure smooth operation. The sturdy aluminum construction also provides a stronger nighttime barrier against small predators compared with thin plastic roll-up doors.
Pros
- Large opening fits bigger poultry
- Solar-powered with USB-C backup
- Anti-pinch safety and simple timers
Cons

VerdictA roomy, solidly built automatic coop door that removes the daily chore of opening and shutting. The aluminum slide and sealed housing stand up to outdoor conditions, the solar power with USB-C backup keeps it running without hardwiring, and the anti-pinch sensor improves bird safety. Users praise reliability and ease of setup, though some report issues in extreme ground-level bedding or very cold

Replaced cheap roll-up — far stronger
Replaced inexpensive plastic doors and this aluminum unit works much smoother. It’s never jammed, even in icy cold, and the solar panel keeps the battery topped up. The finish has faded a bit in sun but hasn’t affected function. Setup and timer changes were quick and straightforward.

Impressive delivery and reliable performance
Arrived quickly and the aluminum door moves smoothly. USB‑C connection charges fine and the solar panel keeps it topped up. I tested the remote at about 30 m and it worked; programming to close late and open mid-afternoon has been flawless.

A game changer for my coop
Bought the large red version and I’m very happy after a month. The color looks great, the solar panel charges even on cloudy days, and the photo sensor opens at dawn and closes at dusk, keeping the hens safe. Robust and weather-resistant.

No wiring headaches — love the solar backup
I previously had 12 V electric doors and liked the idea of a battery backup. This solar unit removes the need to worry about power outages as long as it gets sun. Battery life seems sufficient for now and it’s a very convenient setup.

Sturdy and weatherproof — survives extremes
I don’t use the solar feature, but the build is solid with metal where it counts. It has handled freezing rain, extreme cold and very hot sun. Only stuck once when the coop lumber had a bow, not the door itself.

Exactly what my new coop needed
Installed easily into a wall of our new backyard coop and programming the open/close schedule was simple. I no longer have to let birds out in the morning or lock them at sunset. The only gripe is the small solar panel stand — it lacks a solid adjustable mount and only offers flimsy plastic supports for angling.

Handy, quick control both locally and remotely
Love the local buttons for instant control and the remote for operating from the house. The timer is reliable and the solar option keeps it low-maintenance. No accidents with birds so far, and it feels like an added safety feature.

One month in — very pleased
Charged fully with the included USB cable before installing and setup was super easy. The panel keeps the battery charged even in a less sunny spot. Tracks will need occasional cleaning because hens kick bedding around, but overall it gives peace of mind.

Good until it gets very cold — then trouble
Worked well for months but struggled in below-zero weather, leaving a small gap when fully closed. Bedding at ground level blocked it often, so I had to clear debris daily. UPDATE: gear failed before a year of use — disappointing.

Big enough for large breeds and dependable
Came partially charged and was easy to set up. The solar charger keeps the battery healthy and the safety sensor raises the door if something is in the way. After weeks of use it has run flawlessly; I ordered a second unit for another coop.
