Gold Tone Orange Blossom OB-150 5-String Banjo with Case
Product description
What you receive: a complete 5-string Orange Blossom OB-150 banjo and a fitted hard case for transport and storage.
Construction and materials: the head uses an 11" brass flat-top tone ring mounted on an 11" 3-ply maple rim with a one-piece cast flange. The resonator is 14" maple for projection and focus, while the fingerboard is rosewood. Hardware includes GT planetary tuners, a gold-tone engraved armrest and a terminator-style tailpiece. Scale length is 26-1/4".
How it’s used: designed for bluegrass and Scruggs-style picking, the tone ring/resonator combination delivers a bright, driving tone that reads well in band settings. The tuners and tailpiece aim to keep tuning stable and make string changes straightforward. Players often upgrade strings or tweak setup for personal preference.
Pros
- Bright, projecting tone with tone ring and resonator
- Stable GT planetary tuners and convenient tailpiece
- Includes fitted hard case for protection
Cons
- Some instruments show minor finish or fret-end flaws
- Head may show wear with heavy use
- Satin stained maple finish not to every player’s taste
VerdictA well-built bluegrass-style 5-string that delivers punchy, clear tone and stable tuning hardware at an approachable value. It’s robust enough for frequent practice and live use, with a tone ring and resonator that push sound forward; a few finish and setup quirks appear in some instruments, but overall it’s a dependable player’s banjo.

Solid after a year of regular play
I’ve played mine about four days a week for a year (1–2 hours each session). It’s held up well and still sounds strong. The head began to show wear after six months, but that didn’t change the tone. Chose this model over a non-resonator for the tone ring and resonator; considering the OB-300 as an upgrade.

Excellent workmanship and feel
Great build quality and very playable. The tone is clean and crisp — ideal if you like Scruggs-style bluegrass.

Outstanding value instrument
Really solid banjo. Sounds and feels like something pricier — pleasantly surprised.

Arrived with damage to the resonator
There was a large ding in the resonator binding, likely from impact in transit. Aside from the cosmetic damage it plays and sounds fine.

Edges out similar models for me
I prefer this over my RK35 — the feel and finish appeal to me more, and it sounds great in group settings. Transferable warranty is a nice bonus.

Retread 5/5
Surpassed a higher-priced sibling at the shop
Tried it against the OB-250 and preferred the OB-150 at the shop. Swapping to a quality string set improved it further. Responsive, clear up the neck and handles soft-to-loud playing well.

Authentic bluegrass tone modeled after classics
Delivers the kind of tone players chase from vintage designs. It’s voiced like a traditional bluegrass machine and gives that classic snap without owning a vintage instrument.

Great player with a few finish and fret notes
Very loud and dynamic, yet plays quietly when needed. Tuners, zero-glide and terminator tailpiece make tuning stable and string changes easy. Some fret ends are a bit rough and the satin stained maple finish showed minor blemishes; a careful polish improved the look.
