As the days grow longer and the temperatures gently rise, there’s a certain undeniable magic in the air that signals the arrival of spring. It’s a season of renewal, vibrant colors, and fresh flavors, and what better way to celebrate its effervescent charm than with a perfectly crafted cocktail? Our Blackberry Fizz is more than just a drink; it’s a celebration in a glass, designed to capture the essence of spring with every sparkling sip. This delightful concoction features a homemade blackberry puree, the crisp effervescence of Canada Dry Ginger Ale®, and a smooth touch of Svedka vodka, all elegantly garnished with a unique blackberry and rosemary skewer. It’s a visually stunning and incredibly delicious alcoholic drink recipe that promises to be the highlight of your spring gatherings.

The transition from the cold, gray days of winter to the bright, hopeful embrace of spring is always a welcome one. We absolutely adore the feeling of new beginnings that spring brings, even if the weather can sometimes be a bit indecisive. This particular weekend, inspired by the promise of warmer days and outdoor festivities, we decided to channel all our spring enthusiasm into creating a drink that truly embodies the season. Our goal was simple: to craft a cocktail that was bright, effervescent, and adorned with beautiful, fresh garnishes. The result is this amazing Blackberry Fizz, a drink that we’re confident will become your new favorite way to welcome spring.
The Heart of the Fizz: Canada Dry Ginger Ale®
At the core of our Blackberry Fizz cocktail is the unmistakable taste of Canada Dry Ginger Ale®. This iconic beverage is renowned for its crisp, refreshing, and subtly spicy ginger flavor, making it an ideal mixer for a wide range of cocktails. For this recipe, you have the wonderful option of using either the traditional Canada Dry Ginger Ale® for a classic taste or elevating your drink with the new Canada Dry Blackberry Ginger Ale®. The blackberry variant adds an extra layer of fruity depth and a beautiful light purple hue, perfectly complementing the fresh blackberries in our puree. We picked up our Canada Dry Ginger Ale® at Walmart, where you can easily find both the classic and the new Blackberry flavor to start your spring bubbly adventure.

The beauty of Canada Dry Ginger Ale® lies in its versatility. Its gentle fizz and distinctive flavor profile allow it to blend seamlessly with various spirits and fruit purees without overpowering them. When combined with Svedka vodka and our homemade blackberry puree, it creates a harmonious balance of sweet, tart, and bubbly. For eight servings of our Blackberry Fizz, we recommend mixing two liters of Canada Dry Ginger Ale® (either original or blackberry flavored) with eight ounces of Svedka vodka. This mixture forms the delightful base of your cocktail, which you can then set aside while you prepare the other exquisite components.
The Art of the Garnish: Rosemary Blackberry Skewers
While the taste of a cocktail is paramount, its presentation is equally important, especially for a spring drink meant to be enjoyed at social gatherings. For us, the rosemary skewers are perhaps the most enchanting part of this Blackberry Fizz. There’s something incredibly appealing about a beautiful, thoughtful garnish that hints at the flavors within. These skewers are surprisingly simple to create yet add an undeniable touch of elegance and a subtle, unexpected aromatic dimension to the drink.

To craft these lovely skewers, simply strip most of the leaves from a fresh sprig of rosemary, leaving a small tuft at the top for visual appeal and aroma. Then, using a toothpick, gently pierce a hole through the center of fresh blackberries. Carefully slide several of these berries onto the rosemary stem. You might be surprised, as we were, at how wonderfully the herbaceous notes of rosemary complement the sweet-tart flavor of blackberries. It imparts a very mild, fresh, and slightly piney taste that elevates the entire drink, transforming it from merely delicious to truly extraordinary. This innovative garnish not only makes the drink Instagram-ready but also engages your sense of smell, enhancing the overall drinking experience.
Crafting the Perfect Blackberry Puree
The rich, fruity foundation of our Blackberry Fizz comes from a vibrant homemade blackberry puree. This component is crucial for infusing the drink with an authentic, deep berry flavor that store-bought syrups often can’t match. Making the puree from scratch allows you to control the sweetness and ensure the freshest possible taste, which is essential for a truly refreshing spring cocktail.

For the puree, you’ll need fresh or frozen blackberries, a touch of corn syrup to add body and a hint of sweetness, and fresh lime juice for a bright, zesty kick that balances the berry’s natural sweetness. Simply combine all these ingredients in a blender and process until completely smooth. The next step is important for achieving a refined texture: pour the pureed mixture through a fine-mesh strainer, pressing down with a spoon or spatula to extract all the liquid and leave behind the tiny blackberry seeds. This ensures your cocktail has a silky-smooth consistency without any unwanted grittiness. Once your puree is ready, it can be refrigerated until you’re ready to assemble your drinks, making it a great component to prepare in advance for parties.
Assembling Your Blackberry Fizz: A Symphony of Flavors
With all your components prepped, assembling the Blackberry Fizz is a delightful and straightforward process. Each step is designed to layer the flavors and textures, creating a cohesive and visually appealing beverage. Start by spooning approximately three tablespoons of the vibrant blackberry puree into the bottom of each glass. This initial layer provides a beautiful color contrast and ensures that the rich berry flavor is present from the first sip.

Next, fill the glass with a generous layer of crushed ice. Crushed ice not only chills the drink quickly but also adds a lovely texture and slowly dilutes the drink as it melts, allowing the flavors to evolve. Gently pour the Canada Dry Ginger Ale® and Svedka vodka mixture over the ice and puree. The gentle pouring helps to maintain the distinct layers for a moment before they naturally begin to meld. Finally, garnish each glass with one of your elegant blackberry and rosemary skewers and a thin slice of fresh lime. The lime adds another burst of citrus aroma and a touch of color, completing the picture of a perfect spring cocktail.
Why the Blackberry Fizz is Your Go-To Spring Cocktail
This Blackberry Fizz is poised to become your signature drink for the spring season, and for good reason. Its appeal extends beyond just its refreshing taste; it’s a drink that delights all the senses. The combination of the sweet-tart blackberry with the effervescent kick of Canada Dry Ginger Ale® (especially the Blackberry Ginger Ale®) is simply irresistible. It’s light, bubbly, and full of fresh flavor, making it the ideal refreshment for warm spring days and evenings.
Beyond its taste, the drink is undeniably beautiful. The deep purple of the puree, the clear sparkle of the ginger ale, and the vibrant contrast of the rosemary and fresh blackberries create a stunning visual presentation. This makes it perfect for any spring occasion, from casual backyard BBQs and brunches to more elegant garden parties. It’s a versatile cocktail that can easily be made into a mocktail by simply omitting the Svedka vodka, ensuring everyone can enjoy its delightful flavors. As grilling season approaches and parties move outdoors, the Blackberry Fizz is the perfect way to keep the spring spirit bubbly and vibrant.
