The Sweet Dilemma of Easter Candy Overload

There’s an undeniable charm to Easter baskets brimming with colorful candy, but the sheer volume can sometimes be overwhelming. From pastel-wrapped chocolates to bags of gummy delights, the post-Easter candy stash often leads to a delightful but temporary dilemma: what to do with it all? While nibbling on a few pieces is always an option, imagining endless possibilities for creative baking is far more exciting. That’s where this incredible blondie recipe comes into play. Peeps, those iconic marshmallow chicks and bunnies, often take center stage in Easter baskets. This recipe embraces their gooey potential, integrating them beautifully into the blondies. Why Blondies Are the Ultimate Canvas for Easter Candy

Blondies, often considered the lighter, chewier cousin of brownies, provide the perfect foundation for a medley of Easter candies. Their rich, buttery, vanilla-laced base doesn’t overpower the distinct flavors of your chosen sweets, but rather enhances them. Unlike some desserts that require intricate steps, making homemade blondies is remarkably straightforward, making this an ideal easy Easter dessert recipe for bakers of all skill levels. The simplicity of the blondie batter allows the vibrant colors and varied textures of the candy to truly shine, transforming a simple bar into a festive masterpiece.

Imagine biting into a soft, chewy blondie, only to discover a burst of peanut butter chocolate egg, a crunch of a malted milk candy, or the gooey warmth of a perfectly melted Peep. This delightful surprise is what makes these candy bar blondies so special. While my personal favorites include peanut butter eggs, malted milk eggs, and of course, those charming Easter Peeps, the beauty of this recipe lies in its adaptability. You are the artist, and your leftover candy stash is your palette! Feel free to mix and match to create a unique flavor profile that caters to your family’s preferences. The versatility makes this more than just a recipe; it’s an invitation to unleash your creativity in the kitchen.

The Irresistible Charm of Melted Marshmallow Peeps

There’s something magical about melted marshmallows, and Peeps are no exception. When added to the warm blondies during the final moments of baking, they transform into soft, gooey, slightly toasted pillows of sweetness. This creates a visually stunning and texturally exciting top layer that sets these blondies apart. A crucial tip for achieving this perfect marshmallow topping is timing: incorporate the Peeps about 5 minutes before the blondies are fully baked. This brief baking period allows them to soften and melt beautifully without burning. Of course, if you’re a connoisseur of crispy, slightly charred marshmallows, feel free to let them bake a little longer for that extra caramelized crunch! The contrast of the chewy blondie and the yielding, sweet Peep is truly a match made in dessert heaven, making these blondies an unforgettable marshmallow blondies experience.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 c All-purpose Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking soda
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 c , (2 sticks) Butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 c packed Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 c white Chocolate Chips
  • Your favorite Easter candy
  • 6-8 Peeps

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350° F (175° C). Prepare a baking pan by greasing and lightly flouring it, or lining with parchment paper.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and packed brown sugar until the mixture is light and smooth.
  • Add the vanilla extract to the butter mixture, followed by the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition until fully incorporated.
  • Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Gently fold in the white chocolate chips and your chosen miscellaneous Easter candy pieces.
  • Evenly spread the blondie mixture into your prepared baking pan.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached (not wet batter).
  • Approximately 5 minutes before the blondies are done baking, remove the pan from the oven and carefully press the Peeps onto the surface of the blondies. Return to the oven and continue baking for the remaining 5 minutes, or until the Peeps are soft and slightly toasted.
  • Allow the blondies to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before slicing and serving. This ensures they set properly and are easier to cut.

Tips for Blondie Perfection

Creating the perfect batch of homemade blondies is simpler than you might think, especially with a few expert tips:

  • Don’t Overmix: When combining the wet and dry ingredients, mix just until no streaks of flour remain. Overmixing can develop the gluten in the flour, leading to a tough, dense blondie rather than a soft, chewy one.
  • Softened Butter is Key: Ensure your butter is truly softened, not melted. This allows it to cream properly with the sugar, creating a light, airy base that contributes to the blondies’ signature texture.
  • Choose Your Candy Wisely: While most Easter candies work well, consider their melting points. Smaller candies like mini chocolate eggs, jelly beans, or M&Ms can be mixed into the batter. Larger, more delicate items like Cadbury Creme Eggs or Robin Eggs might be better pressed onto the top during the last few minutes of baking, similar to the Peeps.
  • Line Your Pan: Using parchment paper makes lifting the baked blondies out of the pan effortless, leading to clean, perfect squares. Leave an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
  • Don’t Overbake: Blondies are best when they are slightly underbaked in the center. They will continue to set as they cool, resulting in that coveted fudgy, chewy texture. If the edges are golden brown but the center still looks a bit soft, it’s likely done.
  • Cool Completely: Resist the urge to cut into warm blondies. Cooling completely is essential for them to firm up and develop their full flavor and texture. Warm blondies will be crumbly and difficult to slice.

Serving Suggestions & Storage

These Easter Candy Blondies are delightful on their own, but you can elevate the experience even further. Serve them warm with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce for an indulgent treat. They also make wonderful additions to an Easter dessert platter, offering a festive and colorful option alongside other holiday favorites. Individually wrapped, they can be given as sweet homemade gifts to friends and family, or simply enjoyed as a delightful afternoon snack with a cup of coffee or tea.

To store your blondies, place them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3-4 days. For longer storage, you can freeze them for up to 2-3 months. Just be sure to wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and then foil to prevent freezer burn. Thaw at room temperature when ready to enjoy.
